General Equivalency Diploma Academy

The General Equivalency Diploma Academy at Orange-Ulster BOCES meets all of New York State’s requirements for Transitional Equivalency Preparation (TEP) and Alternative High School Equivalency Preparation (AHSEP) programs. New York State sets the minimum age of sixteen for students to sit for the official GED exam.

General Equivalency Diploma students’ academic instruction is based on reading and mathematics achievement tests administered prior to admission into the General Equivalency Diploma Academy. These achievement test results generate:

  • Individualized Instructional Plans
  • A Time Line for Readiness for the Exam

In accordance with New York State’s mandatory workforce preparation component, students admitted into the General Equivalency Diploma Academy are required to enroll in a CTEC program.

Students that meet the age and credit qualifications for attending the General Equivalency Diploma Academy must see their home school guidance counselor to fill out the proper application. Home school guidance counselors forward completed applications to Hudson Valley Career Academies and have the students name placed on the orientation list. Orientation for testing, followed by audit and enrollment into the General Equivalency Diploma Academy, occurs five times throughout the school year.

Graduation Option Academy

  • Personal Attention

The results of this educational approach are:

  • Decrease in Absenteeism
  • Improvement in Grades
  • Modification of Negative Behaviors
  • Increased Confidence in Ability

Students enrolled in the GO Academy may also choose to enroll in CTEC program. Application to the Graduation Option Academy is made through the student’s home school guidance counselor.
