The Orange-Ulster Board of Cooperative Educational Services serves as a regional office for the Office of Teaching of the State Education Department. This office serves both Orange and Ulster Counties.
We welcome inquiries by telephone and email. Anyone interested in obtaining specific information may contact this regional office, Monday through Friday between 8:30AM and 11:30AM and Wednesday evenings between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM.
This regional office is empowered to evaluate credentials and make
recommendations for Provisional/Permanent, Initial/Professional and
Teaching Assistants certification in the following areas:
Certification for ESL, Bilingual, Occupational education and School Administration certificates are handled only by the Albany office, but this office acts as a transmittal agent for those desiring to submit this information locally.
An individual interested in obtaining New York State certification can:
Submit to this office a completed application in their chosen field, official transcripts of their college work, together with the appropriate fee (Postal Money Order) payable to New York State Education Department proof of the required workshops.
Submit an application by applying on the new on-line application system and choose this BOCES to conduct the evaluation and then submit all transcripts and other necessary documentation by mail to this office.
This information is then evaluated and if the candidate meets New York certification requirements, the recommendation for certification is forwarded to the State Education Department via the new TEACH on-line system.
When an individual does not meet certification requirements, a formal evaluation of the applicant's credentials is provided showing specific deficiencies.
