The Orange-Ulster BOCES Chester Academy Satellite strives to follow the philosphy that children with disabilities should be given the opportunity to achieve their maximum potential.
The Chester Academy Satellite Program serves students ages 11 to 14 years (grades 6 through 8). The staff works to provide the best care and education that expertise, technology and experience can offer. The goal of the program is to enable schools to become as independent as possible, more self-sufficient and empowered, better able to exercise some control over their own lives, and to function productively and successfully as integral members of their family and the larger community.
Class Size and Student Offerings
12:1+4 Classes: This is the maximum class size for students with multiple disabilities. This program consists primarily of functional academics and adaptive daily living skills (ADL).
8:1+1 Classes: This is the maximum class size for students whose management/social needs interfere with the instructional process. Students whose management/social needs require a high degree of individualized attention are served within the classroom ratio. These students benefit from small group instruction with additional support service.
6:1+2 Classes: These classes offer a highly structured environment with visual supports as needed to ensure predictability and student success. These students will benefit from small group instruction with additional individualized service. The program focuses on the development of academics, language skills, socialization skills and generalization outside the classroom.
