The administration and staff at the Minisink Satellite believe each student is an individual with unique academic, social and emotional needs.

This Orange-Ulster BOCES satellite is located in the Minisink Valley High School and Middle School. The program provides services to students who range in age from 12 to 21. Program options include academic courses, life skills activities, prevocational and vocational training. The emphasis is on providing individualized comprehensive programming to assist students in achieving their greatest academic potential and highest level of independence.

Class Size and Student Offerings

8:1+1 Classes: Students in these classes demonstrate emerging independence but still benefit from the academic and behavioral supports provided by a small class ratio. New York State Learning Standards are met through either Alternate Performance Indicators or core curriculum guidelines.

6:1+1 Classes: Students placed in these classes have intensive academic and behavioral needs. They require a highly structured program which emphasizes multi-sensory strategies. New York State Learning Standards are met through Alternate Performance Indicators or core curriculum guidelines.

Program Offerings

The Minisink Valley program serves teenagers aged 12 to 21 with developmental disabilities. The program currently offers several classroom ration options to accommodate students' diverse academic, vocational and socio-emotional needs. Class sizes include options in 9:1+3, 8:1+1 and 6:1+1.

Overall, the focus of the Secondary Program is threefold:

Functional academics

Vocational training

Activities of daily living

Students participate in a behavior management system in which they "learn to earn" privileges and inclusion in various program activities and events. These include Student Government, Project G.I.V.E. - a community volunteer unit of the student government, Student of the Month, cheerleading, chorus, prom and Special Olympics Athletics.
