Orange-Ulster BOCES Students Compete In Special Olympics At West Point
Students
from the Orange-Ulster BOCES Special Education Division had 77 athletes
compete in the 2008 Special Olympics Spring Games on Saturday, May
10 at Shea Stadium at the United States Military Academy at West Point. The
student-athletes were supported by more than 25 Orange-Ulster BOCES
staff members. BOCES
participation in the event, which included students from several
programs at BOCES, was coordinated by physical education teachers
Rhonda Holt and Jon Ferdinandsen.

The
competition began at 10:00 a.m. with opening ceremonies at Shea Stadium. The
games included numerous track and field contests, adaptive games and
aquatics. More than 800 members of the USMA Corp of Cadets as well
as local volunteers were on hand to facilitate the activities.

All of the BOCES students who took part in the games came away “winners” at the end of the day.
